Cocoa Beach, Florida

Cocoa Beach became a household name in the mid-1960’s with the hit television show, “I Dream of Jeannie”.  Although the location of the show was set in Cocoa Beach and in Cape Canaveral (although at the time, it was known as Cape Kennedy), it was actually filmed in California.  Nonetheless, this sitcom of the sixties made many Americans aware of the beautiful area of Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Today, Cocoa Beach is a thriving small town with a beautiful coastline and a lot of interesting attractions within close proximity.  Cocoa Beach has approximately 12,000 year-round residents and thousands of visitors every year.  It is a great Floridian destination if you want to enjoy a low-key, calm beach atmosphere or if you wish to explore some of the iconic places that are nearby.

One place that you should see while you’re in the Cocoa Beach vicinity, is the John F. Kennedy Space Center Complex.  NASA’s Space Center is about 15 miles away from Cocoa Beach, and it has helped with the growth of this beach town tremendously.  While at the Kennedy Space Center, you may be able to meet with one of the astronauts, explore the visitor center, take a bus tour of the outer rims of the center, or perhaps even witness a rocket launch.  NASA’s Space Center is open to visitors every day of the year.

Orlando is another Floridian gem that should be discovered, especially if you are interested in amusement parks, such as; Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and many others.  By car ride, the trip from Cocoa Beach to Orlando is only about an hour, so the drive is close enough to do for a day trip, for certain (although many of these amazing theme parks can, and should, be enjoyed for several days in a row).

One of the things that makes Cocoa Beach famous is the consistency of the waves that are present just off of the shoreline.  The waters are generally calm and predictable; therefore, it has become a favorite place for surfers to try their skills.  Novice surfers and expert surfers can enjoy the rides that are regularly found off the coast of Cocoa Beach.

Isn’t it appropriate that the world’s largest surf shop is also located on Cocoa Beach?  Ron Jon Surf Shop is open to customers every day of the year, as well as being open 24 hours a day.  Guests can find everything in the store from swimming suits, surfboards, beachgoing equipment, outdoor chairs, beach umbrellas, and so, so much more!  This shopping destination is definitely a place to marvel in, if you find yourself in the Cocoa Beach area.

The laid-back, relaxing atmosphere of Cocoa Beach is so welcoming for many people.  There is a real mix within the community of surfing and beachgoing enthusiasts, as well as people interested in space and learning about the life outside of our atmosphere.  It is a place with a beautiful beach, warm weather, usually calm waters, and plenty of things to see and do.
