Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

     Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, welcomes approximately 14 million visitors every year.  This coastal town, located along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, has a lot to offer to guests and full-time residents, too.  There is a beautiful, wide beach for people to enjoy, as well as a plethora of restaurant choices, a wide mix of entertainment venues, and plenty of hotels and resorts to explore.  If you happen to be in the state of South Carolina, then Myrtle Beach is a destination that you will not want to miss.

The Myrtle Beach area, also known as the Grand Strand, consists of approximately 60 miles of coastline and an assortment of beach communities.  Myrtle Beach proper has about 35,000 year-round residents, while the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area has about 450,000 folks.  The warmer months of the year always see a swell of beach visitors, and traffic; however, the tourist population has increased, on a year-round basis, in recent years.

Center city Myrtle Beach offers a beautifully constructed Boardwalk for guests to enjoy.  This oceanfront Boardwalk is 1.2 miles long and is surrounded by restaurants, souvenir shops, arcades, museums, and one of the country’s largest Ferris wheels, The SkyWheel.  The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel opened in 2011 and offers wheel-riders an amazing, panoramic view of the city, the beach, and the Atlantic Ocean.  It reaches 200 feet into the air, in order to offer these breathtaking views.

Myrtle Beach is well-known for having a wide variety of entertainment venues.  There is Dolly Parton’s Pirate’s Voyage, the Alabama Theater, the Carolina Opry, the Calvin Gilmore Theater, Medieval Times Family Dinner Theater, and so much more!  People in the area can enjoy live entertainment, movie theaters, outdoor music concerts, kite exhibitors, fireworks, and many other activities that are entertaining and interesting.

People in the Myrtle Beach area also have plentiful shopping opportunities.  Located along the Grand Strand are two Tanger Outlet Malls, Barefoot Landing outdoor shopping complex, Broadway at the Beach shopping area, the Market Common shopping complex, two mall buildings, and many unique, locally-owned boutiques, too.  People come from all over the state, in order to enjoy a day of shopping in the wide variety of stores that are available in Myrtle Beach.

The Grand Strand is also home to some delicious restaurants, so beachgoers and other vacationers have no shortage of food choices while in the area.  Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is in Myrtle Beach, as is his sister’s new restaurant called Lulu’s, which is in North Myrtle Beach.  There is also the fondue restaurant called the Melting Pot, a German-themed restaurant called Old Vienna Café, the Mediterranean Bistro, plentiful seafood restaurants, and many, many other choices that are sure to please even the pickiest of palates.

If a beach destination is in your future and you are looking for a beach area that has a lot of interesting and invigorating things to do and see, then Myrtle Beach, South Carolina should definitely be a consideration.  Along with a lot of activities, Myrtle Beach has a gorgeous, wide beach for you to enjoy and plentiful sunny days that encourage beachgoers to get outside and bask in the lovely view.
